Tales from the Treehouse: The Map to Getting Lost

It wasn’t a map they’ve given us: it was our ticket to getting lost.

There were no inner roads indicated or specific signs that pointed us to the places we wanted to see. The people tried to be helpful, but their directions were as vague as the map they have given. After reaching maximum speed in the motorbike, we discovered we were kilometers away from the Sunken Cemetery. We lost our way and wound up climbing the volcanic pathway at noon. The white island was more easy to reach.

I lost my temper at some point. We were hiking. It was hot, I was thirsty, and ironically I needed to pee as well. But Brian was the perfect company. He calmed me down. Gave me water. Found some bushes where I could tinkle while he served as a look out.

“Aren’t you impatient that we’re wasting time and getting lost?”
“Nope. The motorbike is making me happy. And you.”
“Well, I am. I don’t understand this map. It’s frustrating.”
“Who would mind getting lost in this island? Come on, sunshine. With you hugging me behind the motorbike and beside me while we explore, we are unstoppable.”

We wasted time trying to find where we were supposed to be, but the sea, the sun, and the road continued to encourage us. Camiguin was beautiful wherever we looked. We stopped and cuddled in places where motorellas just swifted by. We took photos of weird and common things we found pretty. We took naps and ate snacks everywhere.

Imagine a crescent moon made only with white sand, shining beyond the waters. Imagine a view where the sky and the sea make it difficult to spot the horizon. Imagine a cemetery now underwater and covered with corals, with only one cross distinctively seen.

It’s free to imagine, but in Camiguin, it was a luxury that we didn’t have to.
